October is a wonderful time for friends and family to gather and enjoy the fall. With fall’s arrival means that it’s also a spooky season culminating with Halloween. There are a lot of amazing options for fun just waiting to be discovered. These are a few of them in Flint & Genesee.
From Sept. 1 – Oct. 31 Flushing Farms offers a wide variety of fun and excitement, starting with its corn mazes. The price of admission allows you access to three mazes, each of varying difficulty. Guests also get a free donut and cider, can take a hayride, take a trip on their barrel ride, enjoy bounce houses, or visit the petting zoo.
At Porter’s Orchard Farm Market & Cider Mill you’ll find hayrides, corn mazes, pumpkin picking, and their usual variety of apples and cider.
On Oct. 3 you can spend an evening under the lights of Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad and enjoy a night of delicious chili, soup, cheesecake, and live music. There will also be cider from normal to hard on hand to make the night perfect.
7th Annual Lucky Pumpkin 5K Run/Walk to Benefit Ireland’s Dream
This event happens on Oct. 5 and medals are available for age groups from 9 and under to 70+ and this fun day of running and walking helps a great cause. Ireland’s Dream is a non-profit organization that helps families living with cerebral palsy and this event is a benefit for them.
Tour on Victorian Mourning Traditions
Head out to Glenwood Cemetery to learn about the history of Victorian mourning traditions. Learn about how Victorians mourned their lost loved ones in this fascinating guided walking tour of Glenwood Cemetery with University of Michigan-Flint Professor Thomas Henthorn.
Applewood Estate will be holding its Fall Harvest Festival on Oct. 5 and invites the community in for this free event. There will be cider and apples handed out, farm animals to visit, harvest displays and activities, music, live demonstrations, tours of the historic house, and samples of food made with ingredients grown on the estate.
Harvest Festival / Frights & Lights Spooktacular
Grand Blanc’s Creasey Bicentennial Park will be hosting a Harvest Festival on Oct. 5 where there will be crafts, inflatables, trick or treating, a magician, and games. Later in the evening, will be the Frights & Lights Spooktacular when things get a little creepy with lighted displays and jack-o-lantern displays.
On Oct. 6 Flushing’s Almar Orchards will be holding their annual fun through their orchards. After running, the race participants can taste some hard cider, walk around the orchard, visit the farm animals, hear the live music, the kids can enjoy the playscape, and if you are hungry, you can enjoy an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast.
Ghosts & Goodies at Crossroads Village
Weekends in October are for Halloween fun at Crossroads Village. Walk through the village, decorated in festive fun, and see the friendly ghosts and ghouls that wander the streets. Visit treat stops, enjoy a donut and cider, escape a straw maze, see a magic show at the opera house, and for an additional price, you can ride the Huckleberry Ghost Train Express.
The Howling Haunted Trail & Halloween Party
For those looking for more chills in October, check out this fun weekend event from Oct. 11 – Oct. 26. This haunted trail is not intended for those who are scared easily, but for those looking for a thrill, this is a great option. All proceeds benefit the animals at Adopt-A-Pet Fenton’s shelter and there are food trucks and a drink tent to enjoy while you wait your turn.
On Oct.11 at the Fenton Community & Cultural Center, there will be a costume ball featuring a DJ, dancing, and a cash bar. There is even free admission to the Halloween Arts & Crafts Market for paying attendees to the ball.
Get the kids in their best costumes and head to downtown Davison on Oct. 11 for their free annual trunk-or-treat.
Head to downtown Davison on Oct. 12 for its Pumpkin Festival and enjoy food trucks, shop the vendors, and roller-skate, if you have kids, they can have fun in the bounce house or have a pony ride.
Lake Callis Recreation Center is hosting the After Dark in the Park Glowing Trunk or Treat Drive-Thru. Participants are encouraged to decorate their cars and their kids as they head through this driving treat trail.
6th Annual Jeepers Creekers Costumed Fun Run & 5K / 7th Annual Downtown Swartz Creek Trunk or Treat
This costumed race on Oct. 19 will go through various areas around Swartz Creek and end downtown at a Makers Market where participants can shop for something at their leisure. Not long after the Costume Fun Run on Oct. 19 will be the downtown trunk-or-treat. Spots for vehicles can be booked and then you’ll decorate them to be frightfully fun for the costumed kids that will wander by for treats. Kids and creatures alike will prowl the downtown district for candy and fun. There will be food trucks, games, and activities during the trunk or treat.
On Oct. 19 will be the Great Pumpkin contest. Held at the Genesee County Agriplex in Mt. Morris, judges will examine and award the biggest pumpkin of the bunch with cash prizes to the five largest gourds. There will also be a trunk-or-treat, food, games, and other fun while you are there.
There will be a Trick or Treat Trail at Bentley High School on Oct. 26 where there will be cider, donuts, treats, and a hay wagon ride.
Halloween Hustle 5K and Kids’ Trick or Trot
The Crim Fitness Foundation/Festival of Races will be holding Halloween-themed races at Crossroads Village for kids and adults alike on Oct. 26. Awards will be given out based on age group and there will be refreshments at the finish line and a post-race party.
Make plans to stop into the Flint Children’s Museum on Oct.26 for their Galaxy Glow Halloween Party where kids can enjoy a petting farm, Boo Bubbles, goodie bags, and a Galaxy Glow Room.
On Oct. 26 the Stockton House Museum will be holding a Goosebumps Spooky Soiree where costumes are encouraged but not necessary. This is a Goosebumps-themed event for adults and RSVPs are necessary.
On Oct. 26 there will be a Gothic Garden Party at Glenwood Cemetery from noon to 4 p.m. There will be food trucks, vendors, photography sessions, a poetry reading, and more. This event is free to attend, and Victorian attire is encouraged.
Downtown Flint will be having a Halloween Bar Crawl on Oct. 26 Stop into the downtown Flint bars and celebrate Halloween a little early with themed drinks and costumes. Participating venues are - Cork on Saginaw, Xolo, Yoga Loft, Downtown Flint, Tenacity Brewing, Market Tap, Drinks of Essence, Torch Bar and Grill, Churchill's Food & Spirits, Soggy Bottom Bar, and Blackstone’s Smokehouse.
Lamb of God Lutheran Church will be holding a trunk-or-treat at their church on Oct. 27
